The City of the Damned
I just happened to find this in a little MP game. Wow, I'm continually finding really cool new stuff in Dom3! Thanks to the developers for making such a fun game.
Assuming I manage to send in a commander who actually doesn't die, does he need empty slots to carry any items out of the site?

Re: The City of the Damned
I found that site once only and it was in a MP game.
I had just a few turns to try to use it before I got swamped but yeah, you need slots to carry items.
Priests were pretty good to send in there as often when/if you got attacked it was by the undead.
I had a variety of results ranging from You Die, You fight XY and Z and get an item and got tossed into inferno and spat out in a random province where.. the commander died.
Worth it? Probably not (sample size is small tho!)
Cool as all get out? Definitely.

Re: The City of the Damned
For me "city of the damned" was named right. I sent in a good 2A,1B,2H priest guarded by 10units to have him insta-die from a trap. Every time I searched... lethal trap in addition to fighting an undead group. When I finally got a unit who could consistantly survive the traps my total rewards over a 2year (24turns) period was less than 100 gold. Worth it? After those 24turns I decided it wasn't & stopped searching. However, I've heard others have had better luck and it later turned out there was a also Strange Opening (misfortune magic site) there as well (bringing me from Luck0 to Misfortune1-2 in the province) which may have had something to do with my bad luck there.

I've found that a Troll King works well.
Sometimes the final attack sends you to Hell. Beware.

Re: The City of the Damned
Thanks for the tips! But I'm really hurting for Earth gems in this game, so Troll Kings are not an option. I'm thinking I'll send in some Vampire Counts. Maybe with a Skull Staff for Wither Bones, plus a few slaves to Reinvigorate or Leech. It'll be interesting to see if their immortality works in the City.
I didn't know units could accompany the commander, I guess it's like the Void Gate in that respect. I'd need a Ring of Warning to bring 10 bodyguards, right?

Re: The City of the Damned
I got all my commanders killed except a pretender that only got so wounded he became worthless in a SP game I was running (myself vs myself, so I could test as much as I wanted).
I constantly got killed by traps, attacked by things only R'lyeh might find pretty, such as horrors and abominations.
Looks totally unusable to me.

Re: The City of the Damned
Not a lot of luck in these stories. Does anyone have a story of how this site worked out for them? Or some good item that was retrieved? I'm very curious as I've never heard of this site.

There's more bad then good while searching. I've posted a list of ideas/suggestions of what could be added into the magic site. The best feature would be if the magic site could be moddable where players could add new events.
For a long SP game it paid off for me:
My good major events:
5733 gold found in one turn
a second unique added into the game (Ol Kans Sceptre*fireballs*)
so this magic site makes it possible to have two identical uniques in the game! If you're lucky enough.

Re: The City of the Damned
Bad experience here as well. Tried four times, got only trouble for no reward but measily gold, gave up.
But I had Misfortune 3, so that may be reason.
