Default Halt Button

Please, please, please bring back the Halt Button.

It was there in SE3 and it was there in the SE4 demo.

I hate having to scroll through ships and fleets that I don't want to move for *that* turn.

Use sentry as a stopgap, then try to rememeber what you did.

Or give the ship an order it can't do. Next turn, that order will do nothing, and clear..

Or order it to move to it's current location.

If you give a ship an order it can't accomplish (moving to it's own position, for example), then the orders will clear immediately, not the next turn.

So I second the motion for a "halt" order. It's a real pain if you've got multiple ships holding a position in an enemy-held system - sentry doesn't work...

you can give a sentry order, and a repeat order. then the sentry order will not clear.

tested, verified.

edit: or did i misunderstand what 'halt' is supposed to do?

In sequental, I assume. Works in simultanious mode.

I think the order that Samurai is refering to is the SE3 order of "clear movement", which would set a ship's remaining movement points for that turn to 0. Just using the description of "Halt" is rather vague, though, and I think there are different beliefs as to what is meant by it, especially since it hasn't been called "halt" in the game. However, I don't remember this being in any incarnation of SE4...

I somewhat agree with him to bring it back, since there isn't really any way to skip over ships for just one turn. Sentry will skip over ships, but it will continue to skip over ships until the order is cleared, not for just the one turn. I don't really think it's necessary though, since I just go system-by-system instead of using next/previous - ship/fleet.

Or, something else that I thought of, which hasn't been in any Version of SE that I'm aware of is a "halt" order that operates more like "pause orders X turns or until condition Y is met". Could be useful for something like a fleet that has lost a minesweeper. "Pause orders until Sweeper 0007 reaches System Y [1,6]". That would be nice.
