Default units selection for patrolling

1.Where can I find how much each kind of unit costs per turn?
2.In the manual it's written that speed, flying and patrol bonus affect how effect from patrolling. Is there any formula around?

For example, what is better for patrolling, militia 5g, move(1/12), 7g woodsman blowpipe (2/12),light cavalary 25g,(3/25) ? Getting to account also cost of support? And how much better? Is there any formula around?

Who is the best recruitable independent unit for patrolling?

1) the manual

2) I was pretty sure the manual gave the formula, actually.

Any flying units are the best base troops for patrolling. Certain nation have other troops that have a patrol bonus

1) The manual does not document the unit costs.

The numbers for initial gold cost can be found at the wiki
http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Main_Page or in Edi's DB (see his .sig)

Upkeep is the initial gold cost of the unit divided by 15 for non-sacred units, or initial gold cost divided by 30 for sacred units. This applies even if you did not pay the initial gold cost (eg. because you summoned instead of recruited a unit).

2) I don't think the manual gives a formula for unrest reduction through patrolling, it just gives a destealth formula.

I usually patrol with free militia, slaves if I've got them, or tribal/monkey archers. Archers will do a pretty good job of killing barbarians at the same time they patrol, and they might be able to join up with your army if you need them in a pinch.

Edit: Lingchih's right about flying units. But there's not a lot of nations with cheap flying base units, maybe just Pan and Caelum?

Thanks, vbf, for upkeep question. There should be someone who knows about connection between unit speed and partol ability , at least if they mean strategic speed move on map or tactical in combat when they say "fast units" about effectiveness

As far as speed goes, I think it's AP value as per the destealth calculation.
