Default Newbie PBW question: Uploading shipsets?

Quick question:

I soon would like to play my first PBW game. I've read that if I'd like to play my own shipset I'd have to upload it.

Now, what exactly means "shipset"? Mods or just generic shipsets I've saved with my generic empire? I only would like to use the ship configuarations I've found to work best in terms of equipment and strategy.

Do I need to upload that before joining a PBW game?

Ship configurations, no; you need to save a .emp file (in the game with your configs) for that.

Uploading shipsets refers to using a different graphics set for your ships and/or race portrait. If you're using one of the standard SE4 pictures, no need to upload.
