				 Re: Windows 8.1
 http://www.classicshell.net/
I have this installed on my Windows 7 machine and like it very much.

I have it set up to look like the XP mode start menu with cascaded menus, not the nasty "search for programs" thing W7 comes with!.

I have also used their explorer replacement and like it a lot better than Windows 7s one.

Classic Shell is also available for windows 8 according to their website.

The basic model is free, funded by donations I think.

Worth a look IMHO, especially if you hate the Windows 8 "start screen" or Windows 7 "type programme name to locate it" method.

				 Re: Windows 8.1
Anyone who "hates" the windows 8 start screen doesn't have to use it with 8.1 but even with win 8 the start screen issue could be dealt with simply by pressing the windows key. I expected to not like win8 because I read all the wailing and whining about how it looked but even with the minor "annoyance" of having to press one key to get to desktop I wouldn't go back to XP after having used win8 now for a month.
The question would be does "classic shell" address the problems the game ( and the development programs we use ) had with win7 ( since this is the games forum )........ unlikely as it's just window dressing. ( pun intended...)

				 Re: Windows 8.1
My newly arrived laptop has windows 8 and so far it runs WINSPMBT great. I saved the Shrapnel Games folder on a thumbdrive as my win 7 machine was dying, and just copied it over onto the win 8 machine six long months later. So far there are no problems. It seems to run a little faster even though I went from an I7 chip to an I5. |

				 Re: Windows 8.1
I have not had a single issue regarding the game for either win8 or win8.1 EXCEPT I have to run it in compatibility XP mode to get fullscreen but when I do it runs fullscreen better than XP ever did.

				 Re: Windows 8.1
Well that makes me feel better when I get my new system next year. But until then it's XP until support runs out in 4/14. My eye is on 32 GIG RAM systems so a little more pocket change will be put aside by then, just haven't figured a way to get one for free...legally. Back to the vacation before CINC demotes me!

				 Re: Windows 8.1
I had a few odd things happen in the first couple of days -- one program I use had to re re-installed 4 times but it's settled down now and running fine...and that was the only program I had to re-install. I contacted the company and they told me my version is not supported by win8.1 but it's working OK now and has been for three days.
