Default Airborne Operations - Can Not Deploy

I have the free download of WinSPWW2 (with the patch version 6?). I use a Windows 7 machine.

When I try to deploy parachute units, I get an error message telling me transports are not available for the mission.

I have tried the "battle" setup with all of the missions. I buy parachute units, load them in purchased transports, and then try to deploy them before quitting the deployment phase. I can cycle through spotters, artillery and airborne, but the airborne option shows the message telling me I may not deploy transports due to the mission type.

This also happens in the stock campaign about parachute forces in the Pacific.

I would appreciate any advice.

Many thanks, John

You can only do pre-plotted air transports in an attack/assault - that is the sort of preplanned operation that allows for airborne forces after all.

They are no longer available to the meeting engagement user or defender for pre-game plotting as an 'off the cuff' mission. Same as for normal arty pre-plotted missions.

However, once your arty is made available to you, you can plot para or glider missions ad-hoc at a very long delay, or on a preplanned fire point.

Thanks,Andy.

If I start with a clean re-boot, I can conduct airborne operations in the battle mode.

However, the campaign, "paratroopers in the Pacific", still gives me the message that no transports are available due to mission type. (I did a clean reboot. I had purchased a parachute company as core and transports as support. I loaded the company into the transports, but, while in the deployment phase, when I tried to set the drop zones, I was not permitted to do so.)

Is this my problem only? Can others make that campaign work?

All the best,
John

As I said - you have to wait 1 turn so your off-map arty is available for use before plotting in non assaults.

You can still plot your arty gold spots where you want the DZ(s), if you don't want to wait 12 odds turns, in turn 0 of other battle types.

When arty is available to plot , then so is your air landing force.

cheers
Andy

That campaign has already been adjusted in the patch that will be released this month. The paras will arrive at the end of the first turn

Hi Andy and Don,

I appreciate your information. I'll get the hang of things in other campaigns and jump back to "Paratroopers in the Pacific" after the patch.

Best regards,
John
