Persistant problem with airborne units
Hi,
Me and my friend are avid players of both SPMBT and SPWWII and since 5.0 patch there is a huge problem with damaging flying vehicles game perceives as "tough". Currently I have a situation where I have shot AH-64D with 90mm rocket pods in rear section over 8 times without damaging it at all. In return my modern Chinese helicopter got hit with Stinger several times for no damage, but was damaged (1) by rifles (?!?). In previous game I had several recorded hits with 40mm Bofors on Il-2s for no damage at all.
I believe everyone who this may concern is able to understand how huge game killer this is.
This shouldn't be too troublesome to fix, and would definitely improve game experience.
Thanks in advance...

Re: Persistant problem with airborne units
Post the patch, aircraft armour works better at rejecting damage. Smaller WH size is less likely to cause same, if the target has armour. Same goes for rifles at helos that get too close to infantry.
So you were unlucky with some hits, and unlucky with the one that got shot by rifles.

Re: Persistant problem with airborne units
Just like real life ... sometimes helos live up to their "fragile" reputation, and others they're flying tanks.
Speaking of which .. try damaging an Mi-24 Hind sometime.

Nicktheblack, I agree. Suhiir, you are right. Mi-24 Hind are damn near impossible to shoot down. I'm so unlucky fighting air units that's WHY most of the time I pbem W/O them!

Re: Persistant problem with airborne units
The SU-25 Grach is indestructible. Anything smaller than an area SAM just scratches the paint.

Re: Persistant problem with airborne units
I will investigate this - though I damaged or shot down a couple with 40mm a week or 2 back.

Re: Persistant problem with airborne units
The Grach has the same armour rating as the A-10 both are described as "flying tanks, capable of surviving a lot of damage and bringing their pilot back."
That said, we will investigate this issue. Aircraft, in general, were tweaked a bit last release due to complaints of fragility.. we may need to tweak the tweak

Re: Persistant problem with airborne units
I've tended to notice from my own games that MPADs and MGs only tend to actually damage aircraft about 50% (perhaps less) of the time even when they do hit (and that by itself can be hard).

Re: Persistant problem with airborne units
The funny thing is that I've found the ATGMs as the best anti-helo weapon in the game. Just wait until the damn thing hovers in the air and whack them. More than 50% accuracy, high chance of damage (and thus at least forcing a withdrawal), what more you need?
On the other hand, MANPADs are terrible. Not only they less damage than ATGMs, but they also have a low chance of hitting if the helo has any decent EW rating. The only thing they're good for is to make a helo maneuver and become unable to use its ATGMs for the turn.

Re: Persistant problem with airborne units
Stingers and Iglas are much better than Strelas.
Strela can't hit anything but stingers and Iglas often hit and do 1-2 points of damage to helos, just enough to make them go away.
