The XM813 30mm Autocannon
The US Army is currently deploying this derivative of the Mk44 Bushmaster that's capable of using the Mk310 Programmable Air Burst Munition for use vs targets in defilade and more importantly drones/helos/aircraft.
Should this system be Weapon Class 19 (AC with limited AA ability) or 4 (flak)?

Re: The XM813 30mm Autocannon
Either / Or. The thing to do would be build a test unit with each type then deploy it in a situation you want to re-create then decide what does it best. Since you want both ground and air I'm thinking 19 would be best

Re: The XM813 30mm Autocannon
19 would be my guess.
But there may be some qwerk in WinSMPBTs code I'm not aware of that would say prevent a class 19 weapon from engaging drones/aircraft that don't approach thru a units current firing arc thus it wouldn't engage drones/aircraft entering it's weapons range like a class 4 (flak) unit would.
So just thought I'd ask.
Thanks!

Re: The XM813 30mm Autocannon
class 19 fires at helicopters (it only has low elevation)
if you want full fat FLAK, then the weapon would have to be class 4 like a big AAMG.

Ahhhhh!
That's why I asked!
Full FLAK it would need to be.
Thanks!

Re: The XM813 30mm Autocannon
Yeah BUT..... you want this to fire on ground targets .........Yes?
And if yes then Class 19 - Auto Cannon - operates exactly like any other auto cannon, but it has limited AAA capabilities against lower flying planes and helicopters.

Re: The XM813 30mm Autocannon
Flak still fires at ground targets ... OR does it have a reduced chance to do so???
My understanding is main purpose of the round/weapon is anti-drone.

From my experience Flak fires at ground targets like any other unit however you can modify behaviour using the op fire filter vs ground targets & the Y key vs air targets.
Op filter range 6 for all targets for example & if you wish Y to 20.
Air attacked out to 20 hexes ground attacked out to 6

Yep, same here.
Just wanted to find out if I was missing something, or unaware of some feature in the code; like class 19 really only firing at low elevation targets (helos).

Re: The XM813 30mm Autocannon
Class 4 AAA used to button up (to 0 shots) when pinned. Since about 10 years or so back, it loses some shots if pinned, but not to 0 as of old.
One reason a cupola type MG is good for RWS style mounts rather than a class 4, the cupola MG if the vehicle is buttoned does not lose shots. But cannot fire at planes, one trade-off amongst many.
