Patching and PBW
Gentlemen
What is the timeline for patching a PBW game. Do the players patch first then the game is patched after?
Thanks - Jim Myers

Re: Patching and PBW
Other way around. The players don't patch there PC's until after the PBW server generates a turn using the new Version.
example:
5 player game on ver 1.67
Turn processes on Tuesday
players 1 and 2 play and upload their turns on tuesday using verion 1.67
Game owner requests change to Version 1.78 on Wedsday.
PBW admins in an amazing feat of skill and dexterity which is typical of them complete this request almost immedietly.
Game is now set to Version 1.78, BUT turn has not yet processed.
On thursday, players 3 4 and 5 now get around to playing their turns. They still need to use 1.67 even though the game info screen lists the game as a 1.78 game.
Thursday night all .plr files are in and the turn processes.
Now all players must upgrade their PC's and play their turns.

Geo,
Do I just send you an email if I want my games updated to the new patch?

Re: Patching and PBW
No, post in the PBW admin requests forum. The game owner should be the one requesting it. We have a thread there for all the requests.

Re: Patching and PBW
Due to the new EXE-hacking protections, you cannot run 1.67 turns with a 1.78 game. Take it from experience...

Re: Patching and PBW
Good point Krsqk. However, the host can use the .plr files generated by 1.67 and process using 1.78 and the result will be a 1.78 game. So upgrading games in progress is not a problem. But yes you MUST wait until the host generates with the new Version BEFORE playing with the new Version yourself. Thank you for reminding me of that.

Re: Patching and PBW
yeah good lord... I tried running the 1.67, then loading the games with 1.78 and it screwed it all up *lol* The bastard AI mangled my empire -- I discovered the option in the F11 / Ministers window but all too late. Good to know its there though, this patch rocks...
...Even though Emissive still couldnt "emit" its way outta a paper bag. LOL... Its prolly good early game though -- have only checked on a late game in progress.

Re: Patching and PBW
One of my games is upgrading and one isnt (as far as I can tell so far). How do I handle one ver 1.67 game and one with 1.78? Do I have to have two installs of SEIV one at 1.67 and one at 1.78?
That doesnt sound too fun...

Yes, and it isn't all that difficult, assuming you have enough disk space available. I've currently got installs of v1.49, v1.67, and v1.78 in separate folders.
