This just isn\'t my month
Well boys and girls my beloved PC did it too me again. Thanks to McAfee and a small bug, a virus was able to get in and infect my registry. Thank god for back ups. Oh, wait, back ups that work.
After 5 hours, I am finally back on line, virus system is working fine, and all appears to be well.
I still don't know what virus it was, got it from a file off of Kaaza. When I opened it, all hell broke loose. The Virus alarm went off. I deleted the pest, and then the computer spontaniously rebooted.
System32 error and no reboot.
Well a call into MS and about an hour later I was working off of a repaired system config file. The Puter boots back up, reinstalled all my drivers, and went to run a scan for viruses. ERRORS like you would not blieve. Seems that the virus deleted the many of the Virus scanner's DLL files.
And too top it off, I could not go on line.
A call into AT&T and another 30 minutes yeilded me a simple solution. It worked. Unistall the nework card and reboot. How simple. It worked.
Back on line, and right to McAfee tech support Chat. The tech said that I had to purge my Registry of all McAfee files. Then do a complete reinstall of the program. That they are aware of the virus and are working on a solution. No other info given but to say its an exploit to do with Explorer and MS and how Anti Virus Software works. New to me.
Anywhoo, mission accomplished.
God I hate virus creators, MS, McAfee, and AT&T. They all conspire to do this in order to get the money for tech support. (No I did not pay.)

Re: This just isn\'t my month
The only virus file that transmits through Kazaa that I know of is Benjamin, and it only eats memory.
Norton is considered best for virus protection.
You could download their 30 month trials again and again creating new identies, destroying any Cache or cookies they leave on your machine...
Edit: Why don't you head over to the cantina?

Then again, if you found their software useful (Norton), you could even pay for it. Novel concept, I know.

Re: This just isn\'t my month
Well, I just finished reinstalling Win2k. The system worked great until I tried to install Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 plantium. Then upon the reboot, crash to BSOD. No recovery this time. Fresh reinstall.

Hmmmmm
I think atrocities could have avoided a lot of grief with Go-Back. When I am the least bit suspicious that something is not quite right...I just go back to an earlier time...whether it be an hour, day, or week(s).
