Default Lotsa fighters...

Whats a good design for an anti-fighter ship. The AI has defended it's plantets with like 100 fighters each. My ships have PDC 5 but apparently not enough. How many ships do I need to take out 100 fighters?

Thanks,

Ken

It can take a lot. The medium fighter, with armor, shields, ecm and its own size bonus can be tough in Groups of 10 or 20. It's good that you made it to PDC5. Now, armor and shield your Aegis ships. Add one beam weapon so it doesn't run away Two or three in your fleet should let you get in.

Another method would be to build a ship specific to fighter combat. IE a ship with 80% PDC V. Add a beam weapon to keep it from running away, and armor.

If you want a whacky suggestion, make a ship with higher movement than the rest of your ships, put on a single weapon (warhead) and put a ton of shields or armor on board.

Now give it a new strategy so that it will ram things and set the priority for "fighters, fastest, smallest, has weapons". If it doesn't destroy a few clumps of fighters, it should have atleast softened them up a bunch.

Rinse and repeat

Ships with PPB are good too: it skip the fighter's shields.

MB, aren't shields on units considered hit points of the unit, and not actually shields?

Well, this would be not the first time that I'm wrong about something!!!
But at least in the simulator, at the right side you could see the red line for the components, and the blue line if the fighter group has shields. If the fighter group only has armors, you only will see the red line.
Also, the shield depleters can hit the fighter's shields.

do your best to increase odds to hit, fights can be tuff to hit even with PDC (you can get them up to 110% "to miss") make sure u have either talismans or combat sensors on your ships, then do the usual ecm, scater armor, cloak armor, APB's seem to work wella gainst large Groups, you could also try just ignoring the planets (like hiding in the corner with heavy PDC) and use tectonic bombs.

Indeed, shielded fighter group shows both "red" and "blue" bars. But "blue" is for decoration only. If you check the amount of points in "red" bar, it will be exactly fighter' structure+shields ! Thus, neither PPB or null-space give any benefits. 1.78 bug aside, neither is time-distortion bust. AFAIK, shield depletors are wasted against fighters. I'm still confused about crystalline energy lense. There are conflicting Posts that it is either does not work at all or it works and add points to all fighters in stack.

If you are a religious player:

create your basic ship with your basic defenses and components.

for whatever space you have left in the ship:

fill it up with the latest APB, or PPB or maybe PDC.

put in a religious talisman inside the ship.

You now have the never miss aegis cruiser.
