Planet vanishing!
SE IV Gold Version 1.78.
One of my colonies, or better the planet where my colony was, disappeared! No event message, no asteroid field in the sector where the planet was. Just gone! A starbase, minefield and ship in the same sector are still there.
What is this???
Anyone seen something like this???

Yes ! Exactly like that ! Planet gone, no asteroids. But I don't understand the cause either It happend to the AI a couple of times in that game I think. This was pre-gold, and not the latest patch.
Sorry I'm not much more help, but I was so shocked I thought I had done something wrong. Like I got the message but the log window was set to construction or something -- I do that a lot. Please send the game file to MM, I just flaked when it happened to me.
I was doing something wierd at the time, but I can't remember what it was. I think I had just traded that planet with the AI for a better planet that was due to explode. Or something like that I can't remember

Re: Planet vanishing!
Q, you're planet disappeared with no trace?
I did feel a major disturbance in the force a couple of days back, as if millions of people had cried out in terror and were suddenly hushed....
I suspect it is either one of your competitors up to dastardly tricks with a new super-deathstar or failing which, a giant stargoat has scoffed it...
I am off to consult with yoda

Re: Planet vanishing!
Thank you for your replies.
Yes I felt the shaking of the "force" too .
I am glad that I am not the only one who had this experience, because otherwise I would start to doubt about my mind. I have the savegame before this "event" and repeated the turn and this time the planet did not disappear!!!
It really seems to be random and therefore it is not much use to send it to MM.
However I continued my game in the "mystery" Version without my precious colony.

Re: Planet vanishing!
That happened to me once in a game too. Last year, on 1.49. I was able to narrow it down to exactly which turn it happened. I sent to Malfador back then too. Not sure if he tried to fix it or not. I have never seen it happen again though. You should send the file, even if it's random, he can maybe see what happened to cause it and eliminate it.

Re: Planet vanishing!
Happened to me too. Long long time ago, probably the second or third patch into SE4 classic.

Re: Planet vanishing!
I had a star vanish in gold that I was in the process of building the space stations around with the components to create a ring world....all that was left was to build the ring world generator when poof the star was gone and I had 10 useless stations...I thought I had lost my mind at the time..
I have been watching for it to happen again however I have not seen it again......

Re: Planet vanishing!
Yes, we have noticed this before in the beta group and have speculated that it has to do with the game making a mistake choosing which planet to remove when an event or a stellar manipulation requires a removal. But it's a fairly rare occurence and it's awfully difficult to watch all events in all systems on the map at once, so it's hard to be sure. I don't recall seeing any notices in the history.txt file about a fix of anything relatable to this.

Re: Planet vanishing!
Whatever the reason is, it is rare and random. I repeated the turn several times and could not reproduce it again.
Baron your explanation sounds reasonable to me. The game where this happend is quite advanced and stellar manipulation is very frequent: one AI empire blew up a star in a system on the other side of the galaxy in the same turn and planets are created like rabbits.
I just accept this as an undocumented "feature": The planet was teleported by some time vortex to a distant future.

If only we could control it, and get the log file to show your avatar when it happened.
Baron, what you said really made sense. I think I was destroying some other planets across the galaxy and then it happened there. Hmmm. Interesting bug, maybe this should happen more often if there are more planets and moons and the event frequency is high? Then it could be caught.
