Default AST Mod 1.92 and other mods on PBW

Someone has been leaving Messages for me on ICQ about adding AST Mod 1.92 to PBW. First of all, please if you want to get a hold of me post something here or email me. I don't use ICQ all the time and when I do leaving me an offline message isn't a very efficent way to contact someone. Personal preference of mine really.

Specifically though I don't make mods for PBW. I put them on the site so people can play them. I don't make mods, and I don't combine mods together to make combination mods. And I don't take an old mod and apply a patch to it to make a new Version of the mod.

I sound cranky, but there is a very good reason for these rules. It's very important that everyone using a mod on PBW have exactly the same files on their PC. What happens when I try to combine mods or use patched mods is invariably the data files I end up with on PBW are not the same as the players and I have to do the mod twice.

So if you want AST 1.92 or any other mod on the PBW site I will be happy to put it on there, but someone is going to have to show me a link to a full Version of that mod they want used, not a patched Version and don't ask for something like Fyron's Quadrant Mod + TDM. I won't do it. If someone else want's to do it though and make sure it works I'd be happy to put it on the site if you give me a link.

In regards to our PM discussion on this topic -

I hadn't planned on making any changes while the game was running, but (not having done this before) maybe this is something has to be done.

I have nothing in principle against running the game on my home terminal, but am unsure about the mechanics of doing it this way.

And if I do run it at home, what role does the PBW site play?

If you are confident the mod is good in it's current form then I have no problem setting it up as a mod. My impression from your PM comments was you were setting this up as a "test gaem" for the mod. And test to me means that you want to work ou tthe bugs and make changes based on that. If you are just wanting it for a game using your new mod and aren't planning changes I can set it up no problem.

If you ran the turns offline though you can still use PBW to collect the .plr files and distribute the turns. It's not neccesary, you could do it straight PBEM. But some people find it conveienent to use PBW even for games where the turns are run offline.

Ah, I see the problem. When I said "test game", I meant a test of strategies and play mechanics. I know how the game goes when I play it, but I want to see how others play it, and what things show up as far as play balance is concerned. I hope to have all the real "bugs" weeded out before I announce the game (probably this weekend).

Hey guys, he has one more update due out sometime soon. I would talk to him about it before making the game an offical mod for PBW.
