Re: \"petition\" for MM to add starting techs

I think this is supposed to be a petition, could we get some votes in, and maybe start a seperate thread discussing what techs we'd like, etc . . . for sure the pirate and nomad trees! ::grins::

Re: Robo miners/Remote Mining maintenance Reduction

One mod I'd like to see for remote mining is a technology I call "remote pillaging" designed to be used against enemy occupied worlds. Your people/machines land on the contested world and begin strip...

Re: Protecting Planets

I never could find a spot in the rulebook that said whether mines exploded only for enemy ships so i've been loath to place them around my planets or warp points I might wish to use.

Re: Evil Idea

I'm assuming for the moment that the location of my homeworlds is a high priority secret, known to few if any races. Knowledge of my exact location might be one valid reason for your imminent...

Re: Evil Idea

Why not open a number of warp points into his space from all over yours, using ships that only open warp points, only one of them leads to your heavilly defended home system, the rest are traps,...

Re: Protecting Planets

Satellites and weapon platforms are deffinitely a must for your major planets, but for major systems the best defense is fighter Groups, huge fighter Groups.

Fighter fleets don't cost much to...

Re: \"petition\" for MM to add starting techs

I cast my vote for everyone choosing different starting techs at the beginning. I may be an extremist but I think even colonization tech should be optional.

Maybe we could operate on a point...

Re: Unique racial tech trees not individual techs

Actually everyone starting out equal is best in my oppinion, we just need a LOT of special tech trees, and they shouldn't all cost 1500 points to get either. That would mean the entire tech tree was...

Re: New Manual??

I found both manuals to be vague, incomplete and utterly useless, most of the game wasn't included in either manual, most spots were (of course) mentioned in the paper manual, with an arrow pointing...

Re: What\'s the most important thing to research?

I find construction the most useful to research quick, it gives you access to a lot of other options, like troops which the computer is an utter moron in countering, and fighters which are one of...

System names and stuff

Right now we have the ability to name our home planet and any other world that we settle, but it hardly ever gets used because you settle so many worlds and they are mostly the same. Yet there are a...

Re: Unique racial tech trees not individual techs

I think the current system is better, it gives everyone an equal starting point, and lets us have special racial technologies like temporal or psychic. However I will say that the developers haven't...

Warp-points and warp manipulation

I'd like to suggest a number of things to add to warp point set-up which would make existing warp point more useful later in the game, and make it a little bit harder for me to simply plop a huge...

Re: Nomadic Races

Theres a lot of talk about nomads in other topics but the nomad topic is falling pretty low now, anyone have some idea's for the specialized nomad tech tree? And is there any real chance the makers...

Re: Natives

Yes lots of star treck episodes deal with variations of this, or of the minor races, but the question is how to best put them in the game so they will be interesting and dynamic parts of it, not just...

Re: Technology trades

You can always put "any tech" as what you want to trade for, but in my games I find it more fun to close off technology gifts/tributes/trades entirely from play, theres and option for that in the...

Re: Anyone read Honor Harrington?

The hyper-space idea might be modded in, what you need is a component that opens a warp point, moves the ship through, and closes it the same turn, the tricky part I think is having it give the order...

Re: New Features You Would Like to See That Would Have to Be Hard Coded

I think the native races would have to be hard coded in, especially that bit about them advancing and the limits on what technology to give them, space probes going through space rather then...

Re: The ultimate Base

It MIGHT work, but why bother? This ultimate base couldn't build any ships without them getting destroyed instantly at the center of the black hole, it couldn't launch any fighters or satelites for...

Re: Natives

One risk might be the evolution of the "Pirate races" talked about in a previous post, with their own ai, the natives take your ships, and modify their own tech to learn boarding, suddenly they are...

Re: Latest patch, mods & current game

I tend to avoid mods other then new shipsets because I like to stick with the official game and be able to more accurately compare scores with my friends (who do the same), if we started using...

Re: Moons

A bit away from the original topic (fixing the stupid moons) I have found out through an experimental game that choosing ice/none can be a fairly easy way to trick other human players, ice/none moons...

Re: how do turns play out?

You can use ministers in seiv to do almost anything, including play the whole game for you, but to my way of thinking that defeats the purpose, except perhaps when your testing a new ai file.

Re: A pirates life for me...

Hidden bases don't need to be in a nebula, armor four or five gives you camoflage armor that lets you cloak your ships before cloaking devices come Online and provides some defense too. Build space...

Re: Natives

It's hard to imagine a stone age culture STAYING stone age for long after my ships enter the system, for one thing it would be in my best interest to give them a gift of, for example, mining...
