Re: Drop troops on planet

Id like to have weapons platforms that can house troops or space stations / battle stations etc in planetary orbit that can house troops and in the case of an invasion can fly those trooops down to planet to help raise the planet side troop defensive numbers.
Some ideas to throw around. OR planet bound mines that can wipe out some troops in the case of a invasion.

Good ideas, all of them, but sadly unmoddable. you could email Malfador and ask these things to be included in the final patch but to be honest I wouldn't hold your breath.
EDIT: For an implementation to your planetary mines, I'd like to see an ability for facilities and/or weapons platforms that boosts (or could be modded to reduce) planetary troop defence. Maybe even a system-wide Version of the same. This would give modders another interesting toy to play with, and allow "fortress" facilities/ platforms.
One other thing about dropping troops that irritates me is that if you have multiple troop transports in strategic combat, the first one will drop troops, but then all the others will hang about and wait for the invasion to fail or the combat to end before offloading. This really is annoying...

Re: Drop troops on planet
Once it took 4 or 5 turns to conquer one homeworld and it was unmodded game (except the map). I didin't drop any reinforcements so the troop numbers/strength must have been quite equal.

Re: Drop troops on planet
I'm in one game where I have 5 troop transports drop 100 troops each in an effort to take a homeworld. One after the other, my invaders were eliminated.
So my fleet glassed the homeworld. When will these fools realize that resistance is futile?

Re: Drop troops on planet
Hi Loser. I was thinking that the person was asking the question just about dropping troops on a planet. For combat your comments seem correct to me.
Paul I guess for your ideas you could mod the wp's to have some cargo... which would allow you to house some troops... actually its a good idea... as housing troops is always important.
I do not believe there is a way to trick the game into thinking that a wp is a troop
With the battlestations it could not be done and in reality i do not think it would be an economicay vialble solution.... Lots of spelling mistakes there

Re: Drop troops on planet
Currently, the number of combat rounds is settable in the config files. But it's only ONE setting. I've heard many people complain that being able to take the planet all at once in the midst of fleet combat is unrealistic. But it's also bizarre to watch combat go on for years of game time if you don't have more troops to drop and you set the number of rounds very low to preserve realism in fleet combat. Maybe there should be two seperate settings, one for fleet combat (very low) and one for 'between turns' combat (higher) so we can have the best of both worlds?

Re: Drop troops on planet
Why? Taking a single country can take many months. Why would taking over an entire world not take longer? Now, years, as in 5 or more, might be a little excessive, but I could easily see 1 or 2 years going by to root out all the defenders on a large, highly populated world. Unless you want that modeled by the rioting of the planet, but then all conquered planets should be rioting, not just the ones that were rioting before combat ended. Usually the first couple of enemy planets are jubilant or happy when I conquer them.

I do not believe Units can use Cargo Components. There would be a potential for recursive problems.
