There's a lot that is going on in the world today that should disturb people. For an example that is on the flip side of the post about rapes in the army not being investigated, howabout this:

Feds win right to war protesters' records

BY RYAN J. FOLEY
Feb. 7, 2004 | DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- In what may be the first subpoena of its kind in decades, a federal judge has ordered a university to turn over records about a gathering of anti-war activists.

In addition to the subpoena of Drake University, subpoenas were served this past week on four of the activists who attended a Nov. 15 forum at the school, ordering them to appear before a grand jury Tuesday, the protesters said.

Federal prosecutors refuse to comment on the subpoenas.

In addition to records about who attended the forum, the subpoena orders the university to divulge all records relating to the local chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, a New York-based legal activist organization that sponsored the forum.

etc....(rest of story at
http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2004/...ke/index.html)

edit: the point being, of course, that some are very ready to investigate that which they want to and not willing to investigate that which they fear looks bad. It's probably just a fact of life for the human animal when organized into governments and such...

"Only 11 of the women reported being assaulted to military authorities, Hansen said."

If the actual number is 37 then that's about parallel with the 'civilian' 3:1 ratio of reports to actual incidents.
One thing for sure...the news isn't always accurate:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...sa_assaults_dc

(excerpt)

"The Pentagon said that in the Central Command region -- which includes Iraq and Kuwait as well as the Horn of Africa, the entire Gulf region and Central Asia including Afghanistan (news - web sites) -- the U.S. military had received reports in the past year of 88 cases of "sexual misconduct." Eighty involved Army soldiers, with seven from the Air Force and one from the Marines."

[edit] In fact, in the article you posted (further down), it references 80 cases being reported.
