I think you should stop adding random stuff to the SE4 Companion... music player, IM program, where does it end? If you want to learn how to program these things, that is fine, but keep them separate. The program you release is definitely doing far too much already...

An idea just struck me. Ouch! You should learn how to make the program use plugins/extensions. Then, you can keep extra stuff like this out of the core program, but able to be added in as a plugin, like Mozilla and such programs do. It would reduce the bloat for those that do not want weird features.

Hey guys, how can you forbid Ruatha to have fun from making HIS program? Imho, he can add whatever he wants to the Companion: media players, im/irc/mail functionality, skinning (good idea, btw, cause I hate that black backgroung), system tuning, new OS afterall
If you don't like the look'n'feel of this tool, ask Ruatha for source code and make better. Competition is the motive power of progress, you know that

I don't know how that works, will have to look into it. But works for me behind Zone alarm pro, haven't tried it with my hard ware firewalll though, as I haven't used it for a while.

And there will be no communication feature, unless a IRC client that's locked to only
IRC #se4 at irc.gamesurge.net, with somekind of way of showing the activity there.

Plug-in is a good idea but too late in the development to add.

I can see the validity of your point Fyron, but then you should consider that I've cut away a lot of bloat that might have been included...
it would have been easy to include a Calendar, an archiver, a mail client, a full fledged browser etc, as the basic structure for those components are included anyway to make the basic functions work.
But I've avoided that atleast..
Will make it a less bit clogged perhaps, it's still beta, but it will propably do pretty much the same as today when it's finished, add some things taht are still missing as mail deletion, game news alert, deadline alert etc, see the companion thread for that.
