Re: OT : Identity chip
a good alternative, pointet ou by Jack Simth, is using a kind of bracelet (or ring, clock, etc.) with all informations you need in eletronic form...
i saw recently to sale a clock with 256mb storage and with an USB mini-cable that you can connect in any computer (with USB connectors) so you can carry with you all your files, like documents, etc...
There are in the net a lot of Mini-Distribuitons of Linux that boot directly from USB drives, so you can , in fact, carry your computer with you... (mobile SEIV someone?)
BTW: there is any way to run SEIV in Linux? How?

Yeah they did, but I forget who. I will search real quick to see if I can find it.
Edit: I think this is the thread you want. Yup, this one.

Re: OT : Identity chip
Them chips is a bad idea. If gov ever puts one in me I'll chop it out myself.

Except that you can't track a person using a sub-dermal chip- not unless they are in the same building as the tracking device, anyway.
Think about it, in order to use satellite tracking or mobile-phone network triangulation or something like that, you'd need the chip to be transmitting at some pretty strong power levels (at least the power of your average mobile phone). Even if having a transmitter like that under your (child's) skin doesn't bother you, what about the power source? Not gonna happen with today's technology. All those dog-tracker chips do is identify the dog *after* it's been found by conventional means. And that's not so important for people as for dogs because on the whole, people are much easier to identify.
Also, even if it were technologically feasible, all it does is give an abductor a compelling reason to cut the abductee open...

Re: OT : Identity chip
Well the "solution" to that limitation would be to put chip scanners all over the place. There are already cameras all over the place recording activity at all times of day. There are magnetic card readers all over for tracking purchases. Progress, progress.
They should all be forced to read 1984. If they still think turning the planet into a giant human-activity-tracking device is a good idea, they should be locked up and barred from offices of government or corporate resposibility or research and development.

Edit: I think this is the thread you want. Yup, this one. You won't be able to play SE V on Linus, if I understand WINE correctly, as it will be using DirectX.
