Re: Thank God For SE IV.
Size is the exact file size. Size on disk is essentially how many total clusters (or maybe it is some other smaller unit, I forget) the files take up on the hard disk. Every file has to take up space in specific sized chunks on the hard disk. The size of these chunks depends on how the disk was formatted. The size of the file should be the same when it is stored on any PC, CD, disk, etc. The size on disk is the total amount of space used up by all of those chunks. It will always be a bit larger than the actual file size, as it is very rare for a file to fit exactly into X chunks of hard disk space.

Re: Thank God For SE IV.
Size does not matter, its the motion of the hard drive that makes the CPU sing.

The largest game I have on my computer is Freespace 2, and it only ranks at 1.2 GBs...

What's the difference between size and size on disk and how come there can be huge differences between them?

Log files, save games, downloaded 'expansions' and patches. And of course with SE IV... MODS!

Re: Thank God For SE IV.
I was surprised at how big peoples folders of se4 were so I checked mine
size: 1.85 GB
size on disk: 2.21 GB
good lord! .
and I still have a seperate 1.84 copy at 1.3 Gb.
If I had been forced to guess I would have said less than 100 MB. I just checked my sub folders and its pretty clear its because I have a seperate folder for every game I've ever been in and a copy of every turn, and of course lots of Mods.
Edit: so far the rankings are
1. Fyron 7 GB
2. Deadstar 4GB
3. Myself (Randallw) 3.15 GB
4. Colonel 1.6 GB
I expect Atrocities or Geoschmo will come in a take the top spots.
