My suggestion would be to play with Tech trading turned off. Many of the techs you trade to an AI player are never even used. Its just one more advantage a human will have over the AI and I dont think anyone needs more advantages.
Also, IMO its kind of silly to trade techs like that. It encourages all kinds of wheeling and dealing between human players as well and I dont think its appropriate for the level and the scale of the game. The research sharing is close enough in my book.
But, the beauty is: to each his/her own!
