Kaboom! Nooooooo!
There's nothing quite like leisurely amassing a Communion-abuse army, led by a few master mages and with a bunch of theurg and shaman communicants, watching them rout the enemy in a trivial battle... then seeing a Communion Master cast Phoenix Pyre, somehow die (hm, do fire shields or Phoenix Pyre do heat damage to neighbors?) setting off a series of explosions that wipe out 12 commanders and 30+ units. I might suggest that Phoenix Pyre not be cast unless scripted or neighbors in the WIDE area of effect are immune (does fire immunity cover it?).

Ouch! Yes, being fire-immune should protect others in the area.
I have seen an AI commander with Phoenix Pyre slaughter half his own army (saving me a lot of work). This is one of those spells I have yet to see anyone put to good use, be it a human or an AI player.

Re: Kaboom! Nooooooo!
A solo phoenix casting phoenix pyre is fun even though it might not be very usefull.
Hmm... an abysian mage with flying boots and orders to cast phoenix pyre, attack, retreat might be fun. He will attack, die resulting in a huge explosion, be resurrected by the phoenix pyre, then retreat.

Easy .
Have a Arch Theurg bringing along several communicants. Let the Arch Theurg casts Communicant Master, Pheonix Pyre (with 1 fire gem if necessary) and withdraw. Set the Communicants to attack the closest enemies. After the Arch Theurg is gone, you'll have a bunch of suicide bombers zapping around on the battlefield.

Re: Kaboom! Nooooooo!
Phoenix Pyre is funny as hell when you combine it with mages that spam-cast relief as well. They explode over and over and over, and since the relief-spamming quickly sheds all fatigue, they're nearly impossible to kill.
Okay, admittedly, I find the very concept of suicide-bombing hilarious.

Ya, there is probably a sub-clause of the Patriot Act which allows all suicide-bombing-promoting content to be censored without having to first consult someone sane and/or with a clue.

I'm pretty sure that they've been monitoring this entire forum for some time now. I mean, come on: We're talking about holy wars here.

Re: Kaboom! Nooooooo!
Just try not to let your communicants explode prematurely.
(Hmmm. One thing I haven't tried -- if you also brought in a death mage communion master, would Soul Vortex also propagate to the communicants? That'd let them replenish their fatigue slightly even if your Relief caster fled or was killed in the ensuing carnage..)
