One of the Pretender's crossbowmen had two afflictions, a chest wound and a limp. When I click on the movement stat in the unit info, it says Army Map Movement Speed is 0.

If that is indeed the problem, it is annoying that the arrow on the strategic map indicates that the army movement is possible.
I don't think that's it, because all non-leaders have an army map movement of zero.

Perhaps your enemy tried to move into the province your god was in and pushed that army back or something?

With me all crossbowman have mapmove of 2.

I never heard of that. I thought that movement into an enemy location always results in a battle, either in the original location or the location you move into.

The crossbows have a map movement of 2 but since they can't lead armies their army map movement rate is zero.

I guess this happened:
First the game checks the movement between him and your pretender army.
His army wins and wants to move to your pretender´s province, your pretender armyies´ orders get overwritten to defend, because the battle should take place in the province held by your pretender´s army.

Then the game checks the movement between your secondary army and his main army. Your army wins, his armies´ movement orders get overwritten to defend and we get the turnfile you got.

Note that your scout made it through with his sneaking orders, which would fit with my guess.

Your explanation makes sense, from a mechanics standpoint, but it seems there should be a provision in the code for a case like this, because it doesn't make sense that the army would just sit there and not move. Can Illwinter comment on this?

I have to say, I have never had that problem. If I have two armies attacking a single province (which I often do), only one of two things happens:

1. I move first, and both my armies fight together in the enemy province

2. The enemy moves first, and fights only one of my armies in its original province (or runs away somewhere else).

In the second case, my other army moves in and takes the enemy province, which is fine as long as my first army won its battle!

This happens with absolute 100% consistency for me, so I think there is already some check in the code to deal with two armies attacking the same province, and I think what happened to Ioticus was a strange bug with it.
