Re: semi blitz
Well for longer games with 24h turns or whatever, I'm much preferring Llamaserver to other options. I just really like the system of confirmations and notices, you get all the info you need to insure it's all running smoothly.
But doing a mid sized blitz style with 15m turns, email would be ridiculous. I also want something faster paced at times, I think this could be a good thing. At least, if we had more than 2 players for it.

Re: semi blitz
I'd do something like this right now.
I don't think you can just do a fast game though; probably more of a fast-start, with 12 turns done in two days. after that it gets hard to hold people to the kind of scheduling necessary, plus you need more time to do turns and conduct diplomacy.

Re: semi blitz
I am definitely up for a semi-blitz game now. I think we should try to start it off with a real blitz session to try to get the first 20-30 turns done in one day/evening. I think that's realistic if people are ready for this kind of game.

Re: semi blitz
we'd need to let llama know we're interested in starting a game, agree on settings ect.
looks like we've already got 4 ppl ready though, only need about 4 more.
we'd also need to settle on a time to do the first 20ish turns; some time everyone has available. All involved can get on IRC and we do diplo and all else over it on the fly.
how bout we agree on settings, then start a thread and get it rolling.
I'd actually like to do MA
I just started an MA game, but I got rushed and about to get knocked out before first year is up; want another chance to play Shinuyama.
If not MA second preference is EA
I'm not fussed on any other settings. I'd vote yes on CBM though, if there was support for it.

Re: semi blitz
Seriously, 12 turns over 2 days sounds like..... More trouble than it's worth. Unless you think you have a realistic shot at sieging someone's capital in that time, you should be able to push out 12 turns in an hour.
It's giving me an idea for a "non-rush-semi-blitz" game. The basic idea is to get as many turns as possible in on the first evening - with direct attacks on other players prohibited for that first session. So once initial expansion is done, everyone gets some time to finalize fort building, focus their research, and plan out their army composition for really bloody mid game wars. Since massing mages would be a little easier, put the research on Hard, but increase site frequency to 60 or so, to help compensate for the lack of trading in the early game (due to the pace).
Not sure how many people would be up for this sort of a scenario. I'm looking at it not as an artificial peace, but more like the first session defines what would actually be starting empires. So you're doing something of a SP building of your nation, and then the first daily turn after that is really the actual first turn of another game altogether.

Re: semi blitz
What I was thinking about is a game (day or night) example: sunday 10 am to 8pm. where the players gather around and have at each other. mini marathons. spaced so they could have a life. no one wants to commit to many marathons. (at least i don't) My buddys have a game night where once a week people show up and game the night away. but this thread is going the way i wanted so keep it coming. Bwaha

Re: semi blitz
A 10 hour stint? :O Have you played any MMOs by any chance? That's what we ended up doing in WoW..... it's fun now and again, but painful as well.
I definitely believe in the "gaming night" concept, with a session of 3-4 hours perhaps. But I wouldn't feel comfortable committing to, or asking others to commit to anything longer than a 4 hour stretch. The unfortunate part being that the Dom3 community seems to be mostly made of people with families, and other obligations, so the PBEM standard works great for them. Not sure if we can get 8 people locked into a 3-4 hour time slot, but I'd love to see it happen!
