Re: semi blitz
well its a tricky move for me to explain to the wife why i need to hang around indoors playing a PC game for 4 hours, and its even tougher on a sunny weekend afternoon so I will only be able to play if its later in the evening. no worries though - seems as there are enough folks anyway.

Re: semi blitz
Almost comical.
Omni: I can play anytime but the middle of the day.
Lingchih: I can play anytime during the middle of the day.
Let's look at THIS sunday specifically. So Omni, if you don't work on this sunday, speak up, so we know if you're good for a more mid-day slot this week.
What I am thinking, is that it would be nice to revisit with another intense playing session, but that we will only plan on 4 hours this sunday, and then something like a 30h quickhost afterwards. If we all can get together the next week to finish it up, that would be great, otherwise we'll still get straight to the meat of the game in one day. I haven't had IRC for some time, but I don't remember it being hard to use at all, IRC WILL be required for participation in this game. Not only so that turn hosting can be done as fast as absolutely possible, but also so that you can actually have some kind of diplomacy with turns going by at a few minutes apiece.
I may be willing to host this match if no one else wants to jump on it. It's very rare for me to take my comp offline, so should be no problems there. And I'm not sure I want to use Llama for this, as it seems to me that PBEM would be cumbersome for the type of game we're looking at, I would like to be directly connected.
And yeah, Ling, I think you converted backwards. If you're in Texas, then you're 2 hours later, not 2 hours earlier. So you're 12-7 is actually 10-5 here.
I'd tentatively shoot for 1pm-5pm PST then - please post to confirm your reservation for the July 6th game. If we don't get at least 6 signups, I'm going to blame the holiday, and we'll take the extra week to try again on the 13th. Hope this all sounds good to everyone!
!!! Details are now listed in the second post of the thread. Signup with nation choice if you can make this time slot and would like to play. Don't forget to vote whether you want the NO RUSH variant, or want FULL CONTACT for the first session. Remember we will postpone a week if there are not enough signups. !!!

Yeah, I'm dyslexic like that, but only with time zones. I do that all the time.
Looks like we are not going to get the signups we need. That's fine, next week works even better for my, since, like DonCorazon said, I really should be outside having some fun on the 4th of July weekend. Of course, outside this time of year in North Texas is like trying to have fun in a blast oven.

Re: semi blitz
Did you want something different than the blitz server?

I can open more if you need it.

Re: semi blitz
Yes, I think your blitz server would be perfect for this. Just don't want to overload it, since it's hosting two more large games now.
Thanks

Damn I hate when I don't see there is one more post on the next page. How big are the games? I don't see that info. Also, having never attempted to use that server, I'm not really sure what it is capable of managing, just that the page I got said 2-4 players on a 50 province map.

Re: semi blitz
It will host big games too. In fact, Fallacy and Figment are running on it now, since Velusion's server that was hosting them died.
It is a network server, and not PBEM. I have used it for blitz games in the past, and it worked well. Gandalf might have to reconfigure a slot for this one, but that is no big deal.
Until we get more than 3 people though, the point is moot!

Re: semi blitz
Well the plan is to have more nations, and a slightly larger map than that. It would be half blitz, but then half normal game, is what it looks like it's shaping into.
But beyond the basic game structure, your blitz server is operating as PBEM, or direct hosting? I sort of wanted to avoid the PBEM setup, as I just thought it might overly complicate things with that many players involved.
Note to everyone else - if I do host this game, I have no fancy automatic notifications or anything - and I won't be making my own. So if you're not okay with that, then I'd like to hear about it rather than people being surprised.
