Re: semi blitz
Well, Damn it Jim, (sorry, star trek influence) it (the blitz) seems to not have the appeal that I thought it would. Let's try this, saturday I'm available all day and night. PST. Even willing to get up early...

Re: semi blitz
I think the blitz has appeal. However, it only works as a "hey let's play" in the IRC channel; there's ppl sitting around ready to do that sort of thing then.
You simply can't get enough ppl to agree to sit down for that kind of block of time on a sunday afternoon to blitz start what is actually a larger game. a typical blitz requires, max, four ppl; easily had in the IRC channel. the semi blitz requires around eight, and they have to be willing to do the blitz start and then follow through with the game. Just too much commitment.
ppl have tried and ppl have failed. its just the logistics of the matter. without a WoW addiction type crowd, we will never have a semi blitz. part of the appeal of this game is that it allows MP play with a flexible schedule. I think you will find a large portion of the fan base are ppl looking for just such a game.

Re: semi blitz
It might be interesting to play a game that limited players to sending in 2/3 3/4 turns, I.E. at least 25% (or 33.3-% of your turns must be stales).
That way, it'd add a bizarre, extra strategic element, advance the game a little more quickly anyway (income still occurs), and allow a flexible time schedule. Players would be have to be somewhat honest. I mean, it wouldn't be hard to monitor (check stale records), just to police.
It could be set to host every 8 hours or something. That'd be semi-blitz.

Re: semi blitz
Also possible might be a PBEM game with bi-daily-or-so sit down play times. It'd again be limited by time zone, but you could play one turn on off-days and between 5 and 10 turns on on-days. Downside of course is that if someone doesn't show (and doesn't announce it), either everyone's kept waiting, or the person that doesn't show basically gets eliminated (missing 5-10 turns is too big a handicap, obviously).
