I did checked with wiki because I don't have any "real" resource. It shows the range of 8 inch gun to be 35,635 yards(32km), which out-ranged 155mm gun M2 by a large margin. But I also feel it is not a strong source so I didn't list it.

I'm not going to say “G#$%^& It” because I don't believe that to be an answer. However, I would become one with Favorites or Bookmarks and start colleting Good information sites as you find them or as people provide the links here. You will find in just a short time you will have quite a bit of information readily available.

I use DOGPILE to search, I find it quite good at Military Topics, it is 10 to 20 or so different search engines in one including G#&&^%. Another idea is start haunting some Military History Forums. And of course, the most expensive option is books, some general stuff, and then, what you are into to. Yard Sales and Used Books stores can be your friends here. Just some ideas since you seem to have a genuine interest.
