If you turn it into a pillbox, you can then drop some smoke in front of it, and render it relatively harmless, until you get around to dealing with him from the flank or with infantry.
I'm afraid of the Tiger's 88, but not it's armour. Of course it depends how the Tiger's being used, and at what range. But it's not invincible; hammer away at it. Or avoid it and let it get closer.
The German's came up with doctrine to try to use the Tigers well behind their own lines (>1000m) as much as possible, to preserve them. It became a long range support weapon, deadly to tanks out to 2000m I believe.
If you play this game for more than an hour or two a week, I highly recommend the CD version; if only for the much better screen resolution. But there's also a few other nice features
