Default "Other" fire immunity?

I have what should be an easy enough question.

Does Fire resistance or immunity prevent damage from Banefire (the spell in particular, but perhaps the bows and as Anthrax's shield as well) and Astral Fires? If I read Dr. P's spreadsheet on spells correctly, the answer's no, but I would like confirmation.

No, fire resistance doesn't cover banefire (including banefire bow or banefire shield) or astral fire.

Banefire is one of the best spells IMO, great range, damage and no way to resist it what-so-ever!

Aoe 1 usually turns me off from using it in SP (even if it is a must in late MP games, no doubt). Does it have an extra effect like thunderstrike ?

It causes Decay iirc.
Which is kind of pointless cause puny mortals usually don't survive Banefire.

After experimenting with this in SP, I disagree. The AoE-1 only covers the direct damage. The Decay effect has a much larger AoE (it seems to hit most surrounding squares). I think there might be an MR check, but for humans with a decay effect, they'll be dead by the end of any reasonably lengthed battle.

I love Banefire. If someone with Decay gets the Diseased affliction, he will lose 5 HP (non-Regen'able) per turn for the rest of the battle. Usually a human who gets Decay from Banefire will be dead within 5-7 turns at most, which makes the useful AoE of Banefire much larger than it appears from the spell description.

Obviously this is more useful when you're facing humans/monkeys, and pretty useless when you're facing vans/undead/summons.

Banefire is great anyway for toasting hard hitting elite sacreds, chunks of heavy cav left over in the midgame and nasty summons like demon knights etc. Sure you can't blast them all, but whatever you do hit is toast, making the ensuing battle a lot easier. Also works fine against thugs.

Works great against any thug or SC, seraphs, tartarians, devils...
Anyone able to cast benefire will be able to summon undead as chaff to keep busy the SC while you burn him with benefire.
