Re: new to PBW
Hehe... sounds interesting... especially when I assume many/most of the players are in America? Being in Norway means I'll play my turns at a totally different time when AI's is wreaking havoc with others... and the other way around ofcourse

Players in exsisting games will typically give a replacment player some slack, stopping wars, etc, until you get your feet under you. They are usually just pleased to have someone controlling the empire rater than the AI.

That is what I am hoping too... and I really don't mind playing games where it is rather hopeless as long as I can go out in a blaze of glory
Mine every strange place a ship might pass, send drones where no-one would expect, generally make myself hard to destroy...
But ofcourse I am speaking theoretically now since I still get trouble with the AI
Also the latest game I'm playing is simultaneous movement, that is the same way the PBW works right?

Yes, all PBW games are simultaneous move. Simultaneous has a lot of quirky little differences from sequential turns, so you have to adjust your strategy accordingly.

Re: new to PBW
AeoN2 and other Newbies to PBW.
The most common OOPS is having the wrong verision or MOD for the game being played/started. If it works at all it will give strange results.
All of the game descriptions list the Version and MOD being used.
As of 6/27/2002, the older games are typically Classic v1.49 and the newer are Gold v1.67 (patch 1).
The MODs games are few and varied. MODS are fun, but maybe newbies should be familiar with the stock game first.
I use the MOD launcher utility and use seperate folders for all my games. This may require some help or minor computer skills to setup.

Re: new to PBW
Feel free to join Capital City. It is technically a mod game, but the mod is only to allow for a different victory condition...namely that of capturing capital worlds.
Most of the fundamentals have not changed.
(Had to get my plug in...need players bad)

That is unless they are pissed at the person who ran the empire before you and it is a ROLE PLAY game. Then the anger and the role play merge into an orgy of violence.

You know, some of us americans get off work at 3am, central time (gmt - 8, I think). So you might not be all alone...
Not that I'm in the Turn Blitz game...
