I think there's an odd little quirk in the bombardment routines. In the pic you can see the 251/2 GrW is assigned to bombard but if you go to the bombardment screen it isn't. This isn't unique to this unit but happens throughout as can be seen from the save.
Artillery units out of comms cannot be communicated with so cannot change what they are currently doing. You cannot shift, cancel, etc. till they come back online.

Not a bug, a feature.
Yes I know that's not the problem, the units are in comms.
The 251/2 shows XX indicating it has a bombardment assigned too it. If you go to the bombardment screen it does not have an assignment. Once you have entered the bombardment screen (even without doing anything) and go back to the main screen the XX is cleared.
Open the save and have a look at R2 and you'll see what I mean. N5& N6 are the same.
I'm seeing the same thing you see, N5 and N6 are indeed in radio contact and they show X.X on thee map but nothing assigned in bombardment.
Strange......... though going to the bombard menu does indeed clear the X.X bombardment indicator the units are never unusable by the human player.
This could be something that's been there for years or it could be a one-of that happen in this one case for unexplained reasons, nobody to my knowledge has reported anything like this before now......for instance anyone who checks their bombard menu early in a turn would likely never notice this
If you ,or anybody, sees this again in a fresh game let us know and the save game was very helpful in seeing what you see
This is a campaign..... IDK if that makes a difference at this time but have you noticed this happening like this before this point in the campaign?
Don
Yes. I noticed it within the first few battles of the campaign. I didn't report it then thinking it was a quirk but I then got so used to pressing 'b' as the first thing I did in a turn I forgot to report it until now. It seems as all on map artillery do the same.
The attachment is the next battle. AC0 and AC1 now have the problem.
Well......it's a problem only so much that it's unexplained , it doesn't affect how the game plays in any way I can see right now.....if you want to assign a fire mission to those unit nothing is stopping you from doing that so at most this is "cosmetic", a minor issue where units are shown assigned while in the game but as you pointed out a visit to the bombard menu clears that interferance so it's not a serious problem but we will dig into it come fall.

Have you noticed this in a one-of generated battle or just campaigns?
.......and have you noticed this with regular arty units or only SP guns/ Mortars. ??..........in your save the X0,X1, Y0 and Y1 have the same issue but the first three ARE assigned but Y1 is not but it shows X:-:-:X until you go to the bombard menu and back to the map when it reverts to the correct 5:-:-:7 but this SEEMS confined to SP units
