Well now that's interesting as the British Army website say's

each battalion having a mortar platoon with three OR four sections; and each section deploying two mortars.

but nobody seems to want to part with the vital information about when this blessed event occurred and that is something the error ferrets like to call us on so if anyone has good solid information about when all this may have started...please do share it with us.
