Pseudo-SC building question
I've never actually made an SC as you folks use them, since I am sort of slow and timid and like to spend my points on scales.
For that reason, I find myself making a lot of path-boosting items, support items, etc., but rarely if ever items useful in melee combat.
But in a current game, I see an opportunity for me both to monkey about and experiment and, hopefully, to learn about this SC business.
Although this certainly is not SC, I was thinking of G-o-Reasoning a Siege Golem or five, for many reasons I wont list here, the upshot of which is I want to experiment with SCs, S-Golems I can get, are fairly cheap, and I can use them as roaming scary guys as well as siegers.
Key here is: I dont want to invest *hugely* in this, just moderately.
Since S-Golems come with robust protection, decent HP, and full elemental resistance (I think), they seem the perfect target to G-o-R. Have many people done this before?
I was thinking of giving them the following items, also because they are no huge investment
- wraith sword
- amulet of antimagic (they lack only in decent MR)
- lucky pendant
- QUESTION: Boots of Quickness or Boots of Behemoth? Both look like a good choice
- QUESTION: Silver Hauberk (air shield), Rainbow Armor (MR and reinvig), Robe of Shadows, a Berserker Pelt, or something else?
- QUESTION: HOrned Helmet? Starshine Skullcap just for the MR? Or splurge on a Wraith Crown (and then definately not get the Robe of Shadows above)?
Well thanks for your help, I am new to this.
Also, as a question to open this thread up for more discussion: What are YOUR favorite Gift-of-Reasoning creations with which you have had decent success and fun? (Besides the doom horror about which I have read elsewhere but never seen in-game.)

Re: Pseudo-SC building question
Do Siege Golems have hand slots? Elemental Kings & Queens make good SCs.

Siege Golems are devoid of hand slots.

Re: Pseudo-SC building question
From what i've been able to glean from this board a good SC in general is someone who more or less has these traits in one form or another.
1. Life Drain - most important - wraith sword, soul vortex (awesome spell), Life Drain (ditto), ...The bone armor... though i dont know how great it is.. havn't seen many espousing its wonderful/munchkiness
2. Quickness - Bless, boots, or 1 water path
3. Ethereal - Wraith crown, Cloak of Shadows, Body Ethereal astral magic
4. Invulnerability - ~stoneskin~ironskin~goodarmor
5. Fire/Astral shield (or both, if possible)
6. Lots of resistances (more the merrier)
7. Regeneration - Ring o regen is your best source
8. Rejuvination - Although lifedrain can cover this
Get as many of these together as possible with a unit that has good basic stats and goto town. for example:
Queen of elemental Air with-
Wraith Sword
Elemental Armor
Ring o Regen
Amulet o Resilience
Set to cast Wrathfull skies, mistform, mirror image, attack rear.
I'm far from a proffessional SC builder, so im sure theres a better loadout, but thats the best i can come up with off the top of my head.

You can't rely on Life Drain for you SC, unlike Soul Vortex it is one-time-only spell.

or jade armor if you don't have leg spot.

Good setup but I would replace amulet of resilence with luck amulet on your air queen, since you are sending her into melee.

Re: Pseudo-SC building question
I really recommend the Stymphalian Wings for the armor on your seige golem. It provides 3 main benefits:
- Flying: useful in battle, but even more useful for being able to get your SC where it needs to be in a hurry on the strategic map. You can also more easily raid behind enemy lines this way.
- Fear: nice effect to help route enemies
- Trampling: Against normal masses of units, a quickened size 5 trampler (ieL a seige golem with stymph wings) will decimate them far quicker than a quickened seige golem just swinging its hammers will. Faster killing = more kills before they route and less likelihood of getting afflictions.
As a bonus, the Stymph Wings use the same path/gems you already have for the seige golem.
If you can manage it, I'd recommend the normal golem over the seige golem, because it has hand slots (for a charcoal shield, and/or shield of valor or shield of gleaming gold), and astral magic to cast body ethereal, astral shield, luck, antimagic, and maybe astral weapon or twist fate.
If you go with a seige golem and the Stymph Wings, I'd also add:
-Wraith Helm - Ethereal is awesome, and this gives you a few chaff skels to distract the enemy slightly (your golem shouldn't route when they die). If this is too pricey, I'd maybe go with a Horror Helm to boost the fear effect.
-Stymph Wings - discussed above
- Boots of Quickness
- Pendant of Luck
- amulet of antimagic or missile protection

Buh? Life drain owns hard on anything that isn't lifeless. How's this different from Soul Vortex? A Wraith Sword or Blood Thorn is nearly a must-have.

You should learn to read more carefully. He was referring to the spell, which was listed in the previous post.

Re: Pseudo-SC building question
