If hidden fire is on - then you get the normal full game mechanics where whether or not the firer gets spotted on firing a shot (if he is currently hidden) is due to chance rolls, based on weapon size and type, spotter skills, number of enemy potential spotters overwatching the shooter etc.
If it is
OFF then you are now playing in beginner's and young kid's mode. Anyone firing is
instantly revealed when it fires. That, of course means that more targets will become spotted, so get shot at in return fires or later in the move. Thus, in that mode,
more shots will likely be flung around the battlefield in more engagements, so playing in that mode is
not that likely to help a player who wants the AI turn to go faster
!
