Troops & Fighters research tree
What do we have to research to get all the components for fighters and troops?
Like, I know we have to research:
1) Fighters 1 to 4 (5 - if you want the heavy carrier)
2) Troops 1 to 3
3) Smaller Weapons
Is there anything else that needs to be researched?

Right on!
And
1) Planetary Weapons 1-3 gives Cluster Bombs
2) Shield Damaging Weapons 1-3 gives Shield Depleters
3) Tractor-Repulsor Weapons 7-9 gives Graviton Beams

Re: Troops & Fighters research tree
You need some sort of weapons techs for Fighters too, or you get no weapons.

Thanks Fyron.
What would I have to research for that?

Nearly any weapons tech. The Small Weapons tech combined with other weapons techs gets fighter weaponry.

Which can also be used on troops. And on troops, rate of fire does not matter, so the slower-firing small weapons may be better for troops.

Thanks PvK and Fyron.
But not all weapons can be used? Y/N.
Is there an easy way of finding out if researching a weapon will provide a "mini-weapon"?

Re: Troops & Fighters research tree
Well, you could right-click on the tech area in the research queue and see if it says something like "Small Depleted Uranium Cannon" or "Small Anti-matter Torpedo." That is, if you've already researched Smaller Weapons. If not, then you already know there are a Small DUC and a Small AMTorp.

PvK, this is an interesting comment.
My notes show that small Weapons all have a rate of fire of 1 except for:
a) Kamakazi Warheads = 0
b) Cluster bombs, Anti-matter torpedoes, Graviton beams = 2
c) Rocket pods = 30
Do they all have a rate of fire of one (except for the Kamakazi Warhead which cannot reload)?
